Artist Bio

2012 Nobel Peace Prize Concert

Grammy award-winning singer, composer, producer,  and actor Ne-Yo is a talent sought out by many stars and Grammy-winning artists for his exceptional skills. With three number one albums of his own (including “Year of the Gentleman” and “Because of You”), over 10 million albums sold worldwide, three Grammy awards and 12 nominations, NE-YO  has written and produced top hits for a string of singers including Rhianna, Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson,  Usher, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion, and others.

Ne-Yo’s latest album “R.E.D.,” an acronym for Realizing Every Dream, was released in November 6, 2012 to critical acclaim, and is his fifth studio album.  His first album “In My Own Words” (released February 2006) debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, gained first week sales of more than 301,000 copies.  The platinum single “So Sick,” was the first of his hits with Norwegian producers Stargate, and it reached internet stardom with the video directed by Martin Linss.

In addition to being a talented singer/ songwriter/producer, Ne-Yo is an actor. His movie credits include: George Lucas’s RED TAILS (2012), Stomp The Yard (2007), Battle: LA (2011), and Save the Last Dance (2006). He was also recently appointed Senior Vice President of A&R for Motown, a coveted role at one of America’s most important and prestigious blue-chip record labels.

Becoming an actor was never one of Ne-Yo’s desires, even though his stage name derives from a recording studio engineer’s observation, more than a decade ago, that he perceives music the way Neo perceived the Matrix. Nevertheless, in 2008, after the triumph of his third album, Year Of The Gentleman reverberated around the world, Ne-Yo was cast in two big budget, major studio blockbusters that took him away from music for most of 2009, during their back-to-back shooting schedules: director Jonathan Liebesman’s Battle: Los Angeles (Columbia Pictures), which opened in 2011; and George Lucas’ World War II epic Red Tails (20th Century Fox), the chronicle of the Tuskegee Airmen, which opened in 2012.

In 2007, Ne-Yo founded The Compound Foundation, a 501 c3 non-profit organization which is committed to increasing awareness about the status of children in the foster care system, and supporting and partnering with residential care facilities and independent group homes through programs aimed at teaching entrepreneurship and life skills that will empower them to become productive, successful, independent adults.
